Mobility aids help the disabled move about
May 24th, 2009Mobility aids are used to help immobile people move around freely from one place to another. Elderly people usually face a lot of mobility problems. Due to these they often end up staying in one place. To overcome these disability problems, mobility aids have been developed.
It is not necessary that only elderly people should use mobility aids devices. These mobility aids can be used by all people. A person with a broken or hurt leg may require walking sticks, crutches or walkers to move around until the leg is healed.
Walking sticks, wheelchairs, stairlifts etc are a few pieces of equipment that are presently available. A wheelchair is possibly one of the most common mobility aids and is used by many people. Walking sticks are used by people who do not feel comfortable putting a lot of pressure on their body. Using a walking stick or walking frame greatly relieves the weight that is usually put on the body at the time of walking. If a person has an injured knee or leg, using a walking stick or walking frame can help them to move along.
